About this calendar
Punjab keeps several calendars at once. There is the English date, the desi month that begins on Sangrand, and the lunar date (Vadi or Sudi) that decides Masya, Puranmashi and many Gurpurabs. Farmers plan by the desi months, gurdwaras by the Nanakshahi calendar, and families by all three.
This site calculates the desi and lunar dates from the positions of the Sun and Moon over Amritsar. It follows the SGPC calendar wherever the SGPC has published a date, and takes holidays from the Punjab Government notification. Each page says which dates are official and which are calculated.
